ECIL CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY

Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) celebrated India’s 64th   Independence Day with traditional pomp and gaiety. Shri Y. S Mayya, Chairman & Managing Director, hoisted the national flag at the ceremonial function held at the factory and inspected a Guard of Honour presented by a CISF contingent. Among the dignitaries who participated in the function were Shri N S S Prasada Rao, Director (Technical), Shri Shiv Kumar Nori, Director (Finance) Dr. P Venu Babu, Secretary - ECIL Officers' Association and Shri N S Kumaran Gen. Secretary ECIL Employees’ Union.

Shri Mayya in his message emphasized the need for self reliance especially through Technology Independence as a means to achieve strategic independence and energy independence. He said that India should not only produce but also design and engineer its own systems, products and services. We must create and protect our IPR. Like all other nations which have leveraged their infrastructural growth to give impetus to their industry and technology base, Indian industry too should utilize the unprecedented opportunities with a long-term perspective. The need for own IP in the IT sectors is also mandated by real concerns about information security. The pervasive use of computers, software and networked systems in every sphere- whether in defence, banking, governance or plant automation makes the nation vulnerable to new kind of threats. ECIL has pioneered the IT revolution in India in the early years and must take up these technology challenges.

He also talked about the Indian EVM – a reliable, simple and robust machine–an outstanding example of appropriate technology tailored to specifics of Indian electorate. He informed that there are large opportunities for ECIL in NPR ( National Population Register) Nuclear and Defence Sectors, International projects like ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), FAIR ( Facility for Anti-proton and Ion Research) and exhorted ECIL employees to rise to the occasion and be worthy of the trust reposed by the nation.

The students of Atomic Energy Central School - 1 presented a cultural programme comprising of folk dances and patriotic songs. They drew the applause and appreciation of the large gathering. The function concluded with distribution of mementos to the meritorious students.
