Shri Sanjeev Sood joined Indian Railway Services of Electrical Engineers in 1985. He has honors degree in Electrical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.
He has handled a number of challenging assignments. DC to AC conversion project was a complex and historical task in which he was instrumental in converting the first ever sections of Mumbai i.e. Igatpuri to Kasara and Kasara to Titwala from DC to AC traction system.
He has handled infrastructure project of the World Bank in Mumbai Urban Transport Project. He has visited and studied Suburban Railway Systems of number of cities in France, Holland, Switzerland, Germany and Japan and also Hongkong and Singapore.
As Chief Electrical Engineer Rolling Stock, he was overall in-charge for maintenance and operation of complete suburban system of Central Railway, which carries approximately 27 million commuters per day and is running trains at 3 to 4 minutes frequency during peak hours.
The new design rakes with Siemens Electric were commissioned and operated during his tenure. These rakes were giving lot of teething troubles. Their operation was stabilized by innovative maintenance which was widely acclaimed. He has also published papers which were presented in two international seminars on transportation system.
He got many useful systematic improvements implemented and detected frauds while working as Chief Vigilance Officer at Mazgon Dock Ltd.
He has taken over as Joint Secretary (Industries & Minerals) in Department of Atomic Energy on 11th May 2015.
